Sony Pictures Television has teamed up with members of the original cast of Designing Women to host a charity table read and Q&A on Thursday.

The online event will help to raise money and awareness for Color of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, and World Central Kitchen’s COVID-19 relief efforts.

Gates Foundation Gift to Support Covid-19 Testing at Historically Black Colleges

Several historically Black colleges and universities will share a $15 million dollar donation over the next three years from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support Covid-19 testing on their campuses, the foundation announced Tuesday. It will be the foundation’s largest donation to historically Black colleges and universities to date.

The donation will supplement the Just Project, an initiative from

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.

that has provided instruments, kits and Covid-19 testing infrastructure to seven historically Black colleges and universities across the country so far.

The donation will be divided among Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Howard University, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine and Xavier University of Louisiana, with each school receiving $1.5 million. Up to four more schools will be added to the donation in the coming weeks.

These schools will act as hubs for other historically Black colleges in their regions, and will process Covid-19

Megan Thee Stallion Launches a New Scholarship Fund to Support Women of Color

Megan Thee Stallion has launched a new scholarship fund to support women of color.

The rapper has partnered with Amazon Music’s Rap Rotation to create the “Don’t Stop” fund. As the scholarship’s website reveals, “In honor of all the young women out there who don’t stop working hard to get their education! Women remain underrepresented and undervalued in society and female students of color are at a larger disadvantage when it comes to access to financial resources.” Megan Thee Stallion is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in health administration, alongside her super-successful rap career.

Facebook Kicks Off Season of Support for SMBs Prior to Crucial Holiday Shopping Season

Facebook is helping small and midsized businesses gear up for a holiday shopping season made more crucial than ever by Covid-19 with its three-month Season of Support initiative.

The social network will provide 11 weeks of education, resources and training for SMBs, free-of-charge, which will be accessible via a new holiday hub starting Oct. 12.

Vice president of global customer marketing Michelle Klein said in an interview that Season of Support will be available in 15 countries and in multiple languages, adding that it was the logical next step in the social network’s continuing efforts to support SMBs affected by the pandemic, following its Summer of Support initiative.

Facebook said it will particularly focus on Black-owned businesses, which have been among the hardest-hit during the pandemic, closing at double the rate of overall SMBs.

“We want to encourage people to buy from Black-owned businesses this holiday season,” Klein said.

Gift establishes the Arthur Satz Department of Music and will fund a minimum of five professorships in the humanities within the School of Arts & Sciences

Arthur Satz ’51—a music major and the late president emeritus at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID)—has bequeathed the largest endowed gift ever in support of the humanities at the University of Rochester’s School of Arts & Sciences. Satz’s visionary generosity will establish the school’s first named department—the Arthur Satz Department of Music—and a minimum of five professorships in humanities-related fields.

Instacart announces Senior Support Service to help older customers do their grocery shopping online

Stop & Shop president Gordon Reid discusses the company’s partnership with ride-sharing company Uber to ensure senior citizens can get to the grocery store during special shopping hours.

Seniors are getting a little help with their online supermarket sweeps.

Grocery delivery service Instacart announced Wednesday its new Senior Support Service hotline aimed at helping customers over the age of 60 order food more seamlessly — and safely — online during the pandemic.

Grandparent-aged consumers can call up Instacart’s Senior Support service number (1-844-981-3433) daily between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. to get help onboarding their digital grocery store cart. Instacart says the company has recruited more than 60,000 seniors to order grocery delivery in the past month, showing that demand continues to climb during the pandemic.
