Oct. 3: CNN says only three states – Texas, Missouri and South Carolina – are reporting a decline in new cases compared to last week, as the country hit its highest daily rate in almost two months. Twenty-one states report an increase in cases. Chris Christie, former New Jersey governor and aide to President Trump, announces he tested positive. He joins several other prominent figures who tested positive, including Kellyanne Conway and Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee. CBS News reports that the California governor’s office, in a Tweet, suggests restaurant-goers keep their masks on “in between bites.”

Tony and Tina will get hitched on Zoom with their family and guests safe and socially distanced. Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, the long-running Las Vegas interactive dinner show on the Strip, will perform a virtual benefit performance on Oct. 8 on Zoom.

Proceeds from the sales of tickets will help benefit The Composers Showcase TCS Entertainment Community Relief Fund. The fund was set up to help support members of the local entertainment community who have been adversely affected financially by COVID.

District 54 to offer hybrid learning model starting Oct. 19

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 will begin providing a hybrid model of instruction on Oct. 19, offering students their first opportunity for in-person learning this school year.

Parents were emailed a letter immediately after the meeting explaining the option and asking them to decide by Tuesday whether their children would participate in the hybrid model or remain exclusively with remote learning.

The goal is to divide the number of students choosing the hybrid model in half, with each group attending school in person for two days each week. An average in-person class size of eight to 12 students is anticipated.

A similarly limited amount of in-person instruction recently started for some special-education students as well as first-time English learners who’ve moved to the U.S. since the start of the year.

Prime Day, Amazon’s Premier Shopping Event, Will Take Place Oct. 13-14

After Prime Day didn’t take place this past July due to Covid-19 issues, no one really thought Amazon would cancel its biggest shopping event of the year. Last week, rumors of a new date began to circulate, and now the brand has finally confirmed that Prime Day will take place on Oct. 13… and Oct. 14. The ecommerce behemoth is breaking with tradition once again by extending the sales event to two days.

Per a statement from Amazon’s chief of worldwide consumer business, Jeff Wilke, this year’s double-feature Prime Day is being billed as the “the perfect opportunity for Prime members to get their holiday shopping done early from the comfort of their homes.”
