Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt remembers Joe Morgan, ‘God’s gift to baseball’

Joe Morgan’s eye-popping Hall of Fame ledger does not include any saves, but he did earn one in his career.

Morgan, who died at 77 on Sunday, spent the 1983 season with the Phillies and helped the club win the National League pennant.

In May of that season, Mike Schmidt was in the throes of a hellacious slump. Schmidt’s struggles reached an agonizing crescendo in a game against Montreal at Veterans Stadium on May 28.

“I struck out four times on 12 pitches,” Schmidt said Monday. “You can look it up.”

We did.

He was right.

In the top of the ninth inning, the game was delayed for 18 minutes by rain. His misery prolonged, Schmidt retreated to the clubhouse. He was beside himself.

“I was actually thinking about retiring, getting in my car in full uniform and driving home,” he said.

Morgan walked over to Schmidt in the clubhouse

American Gods Season 3 Trailer Reveals More Cosmic Craziness

Starz dropped by New York Comic-Con today to reveal the first trailer for American Gods season 3. The series, adapted from Neil Gaiman‘s novel, stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, a man who gets drawn into a war between the Old Gods and the New Gods by his crafty father, Odin (Ian McShane).

American Gods has enjoyed what could charitably be called a…turbulent ride so far. Show creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green departed after season 1, and season 2 was mired in constant controversy as to who was actually running the ship. A lot of the panache left along with Fuller and Green, but the cast remains extremely committed to the show’s dreamlike vibe, and each episode is usually good for at least one visual wonder. This looks to be the same in season 3, as the show moves into one of the book’s most controversial

Actress Jane Fonda: Coronavirus is ‘God’s gift to the left’

Jane Fonda’s remark came during an online event as she highlighted the importance of voting and how it can decide what happens to humanity.

WASHINGTON — Actress and activist Jane Fonda said during an online event last week that the coronavirus was “God’s gift to the left.” She made the remark while expressing how the virus has opened people’s eyes to what she said was President Donald Trump’s true character.

Fonda’s remarks came during a conversation she had with Maurice Mitchell, the national director of the Working Families Party, a political party that describes it’s as fighting “for workers over bosses and people over the powerful.”

During her very last question of the interview, Mitchell asked Fonda for her opinion on the “concept of maybe a political realignment, a social realignment, and the ending dying of this patriarchal system and possibly the beginning of something regenerative.”

In the interview, Fonda stated, “We can stop fascism. We are at a point — this is a crossroads, an existential crossroads.” She then crossed her hands to make an X.

“What a great gift, what a tremendous opportunity,” she said.  “We’re just so lucky, we have to use it with every ounce of intelligence, and courage, and wherewithal that we have.”

“This is it, this is it,” Fonda said, and then added, “I just think COVID is God’s gift to the left.” Fonda then snickered about her remark.

Hanoi Jane Stands Upon 200,000 Dead People to Declare Why COVID Is ‘God’s Gift to the Left’

Jane Fonda is a sick puppy. Is COVID bad or good? She gives a rather odd answer. No, that’s not the right word. She gives a ghoulish answer, noting that she feels the virus has been “God’s gift to the Left” because it’s exposed Trump for who he is or something. Yeah, forget the 200,000+ people who died. Forget about how half of that total is due to Democratic governors forcing nursing homes to admit COVID-positive patients. COVID is great because it could boot Trump from office. She really is no different that her younger self who palled around with communist insurgents in Vietnam back in the day. She sat on an anti-aircraft gun, joked around with America’s enemies, and trashed the country. Hanoi Jane is a traitor, a ghoul, and totally in keeping with someone who is Trump deranged (via Free Beacon):

Monica Lewinsky Is God’s Gift to Twitter

Photo: Courtesy of Getty Images

Who knew Monica Lewinsky, the intern of record, would one day speak for all of us when she tweeted this in early September: “Just realized I am more scared of our government now than I was in 1998. And that’s saying a lot. A. LOT.”

Lewinsky, who has been a quiet force on Twitter since 2014, is recently rocking the sphere, claiming her voice in a very public forum after having been very publicly vilified—albeit before the age of social media. On Twitter, Lewinsky is a kind neighbor and saucy best friend. She dishes on challah recipes. She polls the Twitter abyss on what car she should get: “So very me. Can’t decide between a Subaru or a Tesla.” (It prompted a reply from Elon Musk saying that he’d be happy to give her one, and that she could return it if she wasn’t happy
