Iga Swiatek entered the French Open unseeded with no WTA singles titles on her resume after turning pro last year.

Two weeks later, the 19-year-old Swiatek made history on Saturday with her 6-4, 6-1 win over Sofia Kenin in the women’s final.

Swiatek never lost more than five games in any of her seven victories

French Open women’s final: Iga Swiatek upsets Sofia Kenin in straight sets

Swiatek, who had never won even a lower-level title on the WTA tour, did so in characteristic fashion, which is to say, she was so calm it was hard to tell she was competing in a Grand Slam final at all.

The teenager didn’t lose more than five games in a single set throughout her seven matches at the French Open, making her the first woman since Justin Henin in 2007 to capture the title without dropping a set. She was the lowest-ranked woman to ever reach a final at Roland Garros.

She is also the tournament’s youngest champion, male or female, since her idol Rafael Nadal won his first French Open crown in 2005.

Swiatek relied on her powerful groundstrokes and preternatural composure throughout the two weeks — both helped her conquer the 2018 champion Simona Halep in the fourth round — and she relied on both again Saturday.

2020 French Open women’s final: Four thoughts on tournament

The 2020 French Open delivered a first-time winner who dominated the tournament. The breakout performance highlights my four thoughts from the women’s final.

• There are breakthroughs and then there are raids. At the 2020 French Open, we got an example of the latter. Ranked outside the top 50 and without a pro title in her brief career, Iga Swiatek came to Paris and blazed through the draw, dropping no sets. The 19-year-old Pole completed her unlikely assault on the field Saturday afternoon with a poised dismantling 6-4, 6-1 over American’s Sofia Kenin the final. In the biggest match of her life, she sustained her level, marrying courtcraft with unanswerable power and rolling over an opponent.

Swiatek becomes the first Polish player—male or female—to win a major. She becomes the first player ranked outside the top 50 to win this event. (She will be inside the

Iga Swiatek shocked the tennis world Saturday, as the 19-year-old native of Poland beat American Sofia Kenin in straight sets to win the 2020 French Open.

The win marked Swiatek’s first career Grand Slam title and also made her the first Polish player, regardless of gender, to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Few could have seen Swiatek’s victory coming, as she had never before won a WTA singles title and had never advanced past the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament before her performance at Roland Garros.

As seen in the following video, Swiatek left no doubt regarding her win, as she made easy work of Kenin, who won her first career Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year:

Iga Swiatek became the first player from Poland to win a Grand Slam title Saturday at the French Open.

The unseeded 19-year-old completed her dominant run at Roland Garros by sweeping Sofia Kenin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Swiatek reeled off six straight game victories in the second set to beat her third seeded opponent during her perfect two-week run at Roland Garros. Her first triumph was over 2019 finalist Marketa Vondrousova, and she eliminated 2018 champion Simona Halep in the fourth round.

The only area in which Swiatek struggled Saturday was on first-serve. She put just over half of her first serves in play, but she was able to convert

The newest star in women’s tennis finished off her dominant run at the French Open with a straight-set win in the women’s singles final.

Iga Swiatek became the first Polish woman to win a Grand Slam title by defeating Sofia Kenin, 6-4, 6-1, inside Court Philippe-Chatrier Saturday.

Swiatek was tested for parts of the first set by the 21-year-old American, but she faced little difficulty while closing out the victory in the second set.

The 19-year-old became the first woman to win the French Open without dropping a set since Justine Henin in 2007, per WTA Insider:

The final Grand Slam event of the year concludes in Saturday’s French Open women’s final between Poland’s Iga Swiatek and the United States’ Sofia Kenin.

Kenin advanced to her first French Open final after beating seventh-seeded Petra Kvitova in straight sets of Thursday’s semifinals action. Kenin (4-seed) was the highest seeded American in the tournament in a field led by 2018 tournament-winner Simona Halep. 2019 champion Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka did not particpate in the 2020 French Open. Kenin, just 21 years old, is seeking her second major title after winning the 2020 Australian Open where she defeated Garbiñe Muguruza.

Swiatek reached the final by besting Nadia Podoroska in the semis. She also upset Halep in straight sets during the fourth round. The 19-year-old has never reached a Grand Slam final before Saturday. Her best performance came in the 2020 Australian Open where she reached the fourth round, losing

Sofia Kenin is the third different American woman to reach the French Open final in the last five years.

On Saturday, the No. 4 seed will try to win on the Paris clay, which is what Serena Williams in 2016 and Sloane Stephens in 2018 failed to do.

Kenin is attempting to become the first American singles champion at Roland Garros since Williams in 2015.

Standing in the way of her second-career major victory is Iga Swiatek, a 19-year-old Polish player that has taken the event by storm.

Swiatek is one of two players left in the tournament in either singles draw that has not lost a set yet. The other is Rafael Nadal, who is a 12-time champion at Roland Garros.

2020 French Open: Women’s Final Preview

How to watch: 9 a.m. on NBC; streaming on the NBC app.

Sofia Kenin, the Australian Open champion, is back in her second Grand Slam final of the year and the second of her career. The 21-year-old has had a breakthrough year, which is quite a feat considering she won the 2019 WTA Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

Iga Swiatek has been the biggest story of the tournament, reaching her first major final at just 19. She has not dropped a set yet and has conceded only 23 games total. In the round of 16, Swiatek faced off against Simon Halep, the No. 1 seed and the clear favorite to win the tournament, and beat her, 6-1, 6-2, in just over an hour.

The two youngsters have some similarities in their games, with both using drop shots to great effect. The cold and often humid conditions of the
