Father of Model Town accident victims calls for stringent action against minor driver

New Delhi [India], October 14 (ANI): Hours after Delhi Police apprehended a 17-year-old boy minor in connection with a hit and run case in Model Town here wherein two children died and another was injured, Jaspal, father of the victims, called for stringent action against the minor driver.

While talking to ANI, Jaspal said that the accused should be punished even if he is minor.

“If he is minor, why was he driving? My daughters died because of him. If he is 17, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be punished,” said Jaspal, who lost his 2 children in hit and run case.

“God gave me 3 children, now two are gone and my son is critical…My whole family was with me, my children just went to cross the road and this happened. They would’ve been here if I had stopped them. The car was very fast,” he added.

MADD on Prop. 22 + Wedding gowns at the Capitol + Parents for split roll, affirmative action

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

FIRST UP — Sen. Mike McGuire, D-Healdsburg, isn’t shy when it comes to touting the quality of one of his district’s most famous crops.

“World class cannabis comes from the Emerald Triangle (of Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties),” he said.

Now that recognition is about to be official and enforce by law.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a law, authored by McGuire and inspired by the wine industry, that ties the coveted “appellation of origin” label to the sun and soil of a region.

If you’re a cannabis connoisseur, that’s a big deal. It means Emerald Triangle farmers can market their product to tout their North Coast roots, and potentially gain an advantage over competitors.

Italian women take legal action over foetus graves marked with mothers’ names

A group of more than 100 Italian women have asked prosecutors to investigate who is behind the burial for nearly a decade of foetuses in graves marked with the names of their mothers in a cemetery in Rome.

The practice only came to light last week after one of the women, whose curiosity was sparked after reading about so-called “fields of angels” in local newspapers, discovered a plot with a wooden cross bearing her name and the date on which the foetus was buried at Prima Porta cemetery. She subsequently posted about her experience on Facebook.

Over 100 women have since come together for a potential class action amid a scandal that has also reignited the debate in Italy over the difficulties women have in obtaining safe abortions despite the procedure being legalised in 1978.

Differenza Donna, an activist group that filed the complaint to Rome prosecutors, said the women’s

UK coronavirus live: action needed now to avoid March-style lockdown, says adviser ahead of new Scotland rules | Politics

Good morning. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, will make a statement to the Scottish parliament later announcing a new set of coronavirus restrictions. Scotland’s laws are already tighter than England’s but case numbers in Scotland are rising alarmingly, as they are across the UK as a whole, and Sturgeon said yesterday: “The government is receiving very strong public health advice that action over and above the current restrictions is necessary.”

We got a good insight into what that advice sounds like this morning from Prof Stephen Reicher, professor of social psychology at the University of St Andrews and an adviser to the Scottish government on Covid, as well as a contributor to Sage, the UK government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies. Reicher said that without action now, a March-style lockdown would be needed by the end of the month. He told the Today programme:

I do think it’s important

Activists call for action on gift ban bill before end of legislative session; four arrested in the process

Chanting “Pass the gift ban. Do your job” and “Stop taking bribes,” about 20 activists gathered in the hallway outside the Capitol office of House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff on Tuesday, demanding action on a bill making it illegal for public employees and officials to accept gifts.

The representatives from MarchOnHarrisburg said they have been waiting for action for four years and came to the Capitol with four members willing to risk arrest to remind House leaders of a pre-pandemic commitment from former House Speaker Mike Turzai and then-House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler to bring up House Bill 1945 for a vote by the full chamber.

It unanimously passed the House State Government Committee last October.

Knowing the Nov. 30 end of the legislative session is drawing near, Beth Taylor, the group’s Lehigh Valley chapter leader, said they don’t want the session to end without both chambers acting on this
