Parmigiani Fleurier Releases Two Stunning Women’s Tonda Watches

This autumn, Parmigiani Fleurier released two new women’s timepieces that highlight its commitment to creating beautiful women’s watches with robust mechanical movements.

The Tonda Reine de Mai watch features several hand-carved flowers atop a white mother-of-pearl dial. The Daisy May flowers are crafted from different materials, including rose gold, white gold set with diamonds, and mother-of-pearl, which is notoriously difficult to decorate due to its fragility. After machining the flowers to achieve the right shape, each is finished by hand using an array of artistic techniques including sandblasting, polishing, and engraving in matte and polished finishings. Each dial requires 24 hours of work from skilled artisans, so it is accordingly limited to five pieces.

While many brands compromise on the movements of watches with métiers d’arts by using quartz instead of mechanical movements, Parmigiani Fleurier goes even further by making the movement just as beautiful as the dial in the new Tonda Reine de Mai. It features the in-house PF310 automatic movement, and in what may be a first in watchmaking, Parmigiani Fleurier decorated the rotor with the same difficult artistic crafts as the gorgeous dial. The 22K gold rotor features four mother-of-pearl Daisy May flowers and takes 20 hours to craft. To finish the exceptional piece, the bezel, lugs, and bracelet are all fully set with near-colorless and internally flawless diamonds, totaling nearly 10 carats. It retails for $109,000.

The Tonda Métropolitaine Rose Gold Rainbow Opal watch features a stunning opal dial surrounded by multi-colored gemstones. The finest opals are renowned for their play-of-color, a unique phenomenon exclusive to opals where a kaleidoscope of flashing colors appears within the stone. Many opals show more blues and greens, but the opals selected for this limited-edition timepiece feature shades of red and yellow as well, which are accentuated by a rainbow of baguette-cut stones in a graduating color scale. The stones were individually selected to make a seamless color transition, and features 3.63 carats of precious stones including pink, blue, yellow, and orange sapphire, ruby, tsavorite, and amethyst. Cutting opal into an ultra-thin watch dial is a difficult task that only the most skilled artisans can undertake, so the Tonda Métropolitaine Rose Gold Rainbow Opal watch is limited to just five pieces and each is one of a kind. Underneath its breathtaking dial and case is an in-house automatic movement that measures just 3.9mm in thickness, has a 50-hour power reserve, and is water-resistant to 30m. The watch is finished with an indigo blue Hermès alligator strap and retails for $79,000.
