NIght out in Moscow: few masks and many shrugs at rising coronavirus cases

That morning, Russia had announced more than 12,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the past day — a record increase for the country with the world’s fourth-largest number of cases. Then, on Tuesday, Russia set a record for daily deaths from the coronavirus with 244. On Wednesday, it was 239 deaths linked to the virus, and 14,200 new cases.

The autumn spike in infections in Russia had seemed inevitable. After a two-month spring lockdown with strict restrictions, there were practically no constraints over the summer. With the long Russian winter ahead, the prevailing mood in Moscow, at least, is to shrug off the coronavirus anxieties for now and take what comes.

Mask requirements exist, but they’re rarely observed or enforced. While some establishments do temperature checks at the door, there’s no social distancing inside or limits on capacity.

The question I’m asked most often when catching up with friends and

Power and style above all

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a paradox. It’s utilitarian, rugged and boxy. But at the same time, it’s coveted by the rich, stylish and famous, and Mercedes keeps coming up with ever more luxurious and powerful variants to satisfy those buyers, the latest of which is the 2020 AMG G63.

This ubertractor has a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that produces 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque — figures befitting a supercar — and routes that power through a chassis that, while more refined than ever, still feels better suited to guarding a Slavic border checkpoint than driving on anything resembling a twisty road. It’s all very silly and austere and purposeful. And therein lies the charm of the G-Wagen: well-dressed lunacy.

The always-lovely 4.0-liter V8 is paired with Mercedes’ nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic

Sean McVay has adjusted his coaching style by relying more on his coordinators

After reaching the Super Bowl in 2018, the Rams missed the playoffs in 2019, and they looked like a team on the decline. But head coach Sean McVay has improved the team’s fortunes this season, in part by learning to be less of a micromanager.

McVay hired a new offensive coordinator in Kevin O’Connell (who spent last year in Washington) and a new defensive coordinator in Brandon Staley (who spent last year in Denver), and he says that with the two of them handing more of the Xs-and-Os scheming, it has improved McVay’s ability to see the big picture.

“What I wanted to try to do is just be more present with our team,” McVay said, via ESPN. “Be around defense, special teams and the offense a little bit more. Be around the staff members a little bit more.”

McVay recognizes that a head coach has to delegate, and that

Rihanna is one of the nominees for the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards for the Style Star of 2020. She’s a musician, businesswoman and a fashion icon. There’s pretty much nothing she can’t do! Rihanna defines fashion as freedom.

“‘Freedom is the comfortability of a piece and being who you are a thousand percent,” she told E! News in February at New York Fashion Week. “‘Cause I guess there’s a lot of discomfort based on the barriers that society puts on you. What they tell you should be, shouldn’t be, look like, not look like, talk like, dress like and to just be OK with whatever it is that you feel and are. That to me is the ultimate freedom.”

Take Some Lessons From Miles Davis

Tom Garrubba, VP/CISO of the SFG/Shared Assessments Program, is a recognized advisor, author, and instructor on IT and operational risks.

As a fan of biographies, music, and history, I enjoy learning about historical figures and events and often identify applicable concepts I can use in my life or profession — especially from people who we might not normally recognize as leaders. Often, these people tend to not just shape others around them but also tend to modify or even alter the direction of their industry and society.

Miles Davis fits this description.

Most people recognize Miles simply as a jazz musician; however, he was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and not only changed the direction of jazz multiple times, but also influenced popular music, style and culture. To play in Miles’ band wasn’t just a badge of honor; it was akin to studying

The results of this Thai-style soup are worth all the effort

Right next to taffy apples and pumpkin spice lattes, butternut squash soup is one of my favorite fall foods.

But I have to admit this dish gives me pause. There’s always the cost-benefit analysis that goes into any decision — and making soup is no different.

On the plus side, this version combines the classic creamy soup with the warming flavors of Thai cuisine — red curry paste, ginger, lemongrass and fresh lime.

In the red column, this is going to require a certain amount of effort. First, there’s the shopping. I don’t typically have curry paste, lemongrass or even fresh ginger on hand.

Then there’s the prep work. This soup definitely requires a bit of elbow grease — peeling the ginger, smashing the lemongrass. Never mind, cutting the squash itself — an onerous task, to be certain.

Not to sound lazy, but is this going to be worth all
