Wedding Venue’s Liquor License Suspended After Reception: Cuomo

BAITING HOLLOW, NY — Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow, a popular Long Island wedding venue, was one of 16 additional bars and restaurants that had their liquor licenses suspended statewide for “egregious” violations of coronavirus-related regulations, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

Giorgio’s Catering at 100 Fox Hill Dr. had its license suspended Saturday, a news release from Cuomo said. On Friday, investigators with the state’s task force reported seeing 95 people at a wedding reception on the premises — nearly twice the legal limit, Cuomo said.

Half of the guests, the release said, were seen “standing and mingling inside the premises, while the other half were outside on a deck, standing, socializing, and drinking — most without facial coverings.”

Giorgio’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So far, 217 businesses have had their liquor licenses suspended statewide; 1,161 charges have been filed and processed, Cuomo said.

Extinction Rebellion Crashed Dior’s Spring 2021 Paris Fashion Show

Fashion is no stranger to gate-crashers, which makes it all the more unsurprising that Dior, helmed by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, saw an unexpected guest on the runway at its Dior Spring 2021 show in Paris today.

According to WWD, a spokesperson for the climate action group Extinction Rebellion claimed responsibility for the protest. The protester carried a bright yellow banner down the runway — stamped with Extinction Rebellion’s logo — that said “We are all fashion victims.” The woman was thought to be part of the show before many realized that she was indeed gate-crashing.

The fashion house itself frequently uses protest messaging: Just last season, Chiuri featured neon signs that said “Patriarchy = CO2” as part of the show. LVMH’s (Dior’s parent company) head of communication and image, Antoine Arnault, initially told WWD, “I think it was part of the show. It’s so hard to

Nasdaq Retakes the Line, My Tech-Centric Focus, Debate Watching, Mid-Cap Beauty

Want vs. need. Sometimes it can be as plain as day versus night.

We have all either raised or been an adolescent ourselves who “needs” this or that for the holidays based upon what is “cool” right now. We have all watched our favorite sports teams, “needing” a turnover, or a “double play.” Even though we know that this is just a game.

But sometimes the differences between wants and needs are less easily distinguishable. The line between what is dire necessity and truly just luxury becomes blurred. We hope and pray for a loved one to pull through not sure if it is best for them, keenly aware that we’ll do better with them existing on this side of the dirt. That’s as blurry as it gets.

Speaking broadly, I think almost all of us “want” what’s best for this nation, though over a “friendly” cup of coffee we

Matthews shared two photos with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, in which she holds up a sonogram as Mahomes, 25, hugs her belly.

″Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding❤️,” Matthews wrote in the caption of the post.

Mahomes shared a close-up photo of the sonogram on his own Instagram, captioning the post with a red heart emoji.

The longtime couple — who have been dating since they were teenagers — got engaged earlier this month, when Mahomes popped the question following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl ring ceremony and one day after Matthews’ 25th birthday.

In a Vast, Empty Swimming Pool, a Fashion Show

In the intervening years, Sunnei has been a rarity in Milan: a youthful, scrappy and successful upstart among the corporate leviathans that dominate Italian fashion. Rizzo, 32, and Messina, 31, lead a dozen team members, all in their twenties, who together create subversive, reimagined Italian tailoring — like this season’s long-lined, velcro-cuffed blazer and boxy, rose-colored neoprene trench coat — along with ’90s-inflected staples like cargo pants, button-up denim dresses and crop tops. Inspired by the coolly offbeat crew that surrounds the designers, the line avoids trends and instead creates clothes that feel like a uniform for a forward-looking subculture — while also continuing the Italian tradition of privileging exceptional construction and materials, from smooth gabardines to high-tech nylons and experimental wool knits. “This is still a very difficult period,” Rizzo acknowledged of hosting a live event, “but it’s an investment for our brand but also for our values, and

An Irving couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with a $2M gift to a local hospital

For their 50th wedding anniversary, Chan and Surekha Patel decided to do something a little different to celebrate.

The Irving couple pledged $2 million to strengthen cardiovascular and surgical care at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving.

It is the single largest gift ever given by a donor to the Baylor Scott & White Irving Foundation, according to a news release from the center.

Chan’s commitment to heart health is personal. He has survived two major heart attacks, his first at age 37.

Cindy Schamp, president of Baylor Scott & White Irving, said in a statement the gift will be used to expand, improve and enhance cardiovascular care and surgical services. In recognition of the gift, the Patels’ names will be added to the hospital’s Medical Office Building One.

Chan Patel, an entrepreneur and hotelier, is the founder of the State Bank of Texas.

The couple has been

Skilled trades are in high demand. A new Orange County program trains women for them.

Jasmine Jones was working in maintenance at the University of North Carolina when the coronavirus pandemic began. Then the virus hit, the school closed, and Jones was unemployed.

She found work as a plumbing associate at a Lowe’s in Cary, but wanted to get her hands dirty.

“I just want to do manual labor instead of being behind a desk taking phone calls,” said Jones, 30.

This week, she launched her new career as a plumber, landing a job at Carrboro Plumbing.

Getting her from plumbing associate to plumber was Hope Renovations, a new skilled trades training program in Orange County specifically for women. It launched in July and graduated its first class this month.

High-wage skilled trade jobs have long been occupied mostly by men. Hope Renovations says that more women can do them and trains them for it.

In addition to its 10-week pre-apprenticeship training program

Was Milan Fashion Week Really a “Fiasco”?

When the French newspaper Le Figaro branded Milan Fashion Week a “fiasco” in a headline last Tuesday—before Milan Fashion Week had even begun—it went down in Italy about as well as a Hawaiian pizza with a side of SpaghettiOs. “Ridiculous, stupid, ignorant, wrong!” one eminent Italian editor summarized it to me. “They are just projecting their own fears about Paris Fashion Week and health issues onto us,” said an Italian house PR, more circumspectly.

Reading below the incendiary and clumsy headline (so clumsy that Le Figaro later changed it without explanation) the evidence presented to support it was circumstantial; Bottega Veneta and Gucci were not showing (correct), Versace and Prada U-turned from physical to digital (correct), social distancing had to be maintained at the physical shows that were happening (like, obviously correct), British visitors to Italy faced a quarantine when returning home (incorrect), and—this was probably the main cause of
