This Instagram Trick Helped Me Find My Style and Confidence as a Plus-Size Woman

Olivia Muenter, HelloGiggles

Approximately 68% of women in America are considered plus size, but there’s a clear lack of industry representation and shopping options for this majority. In Plus-Size Diaries, columnist Olivia Muenter dives into all things plus-size, from sharing her personal experiences to speaking out about plus-size culture at large.

For most of my life, clothing and fashion have made me feel things, both negative and positive. I knew from the time I was eight years old that I loved clothing. Planning a new outfit for a special occasion brought me excitement and shopping brought me a certain thrill, but as someone who has fluctuated between a size 12 and 18 for most of my life, fashion has also brought me darker feelings. I felt jealous that my thinner friends could “pull off” wearing things that I thought I couldn’t, I felt bitter that popular stores didn’t

Sterling Ruby Weighs In on His Fashion Week Film, Building a Brand, and His ‘More Fears Than Hopes’ for the U.S.A.

What do you see as the benefits of participating in an organized Fashion Week and speaking to the fashion world?

I see the fashion world as somewhat parallel to the art world. This isn’t a complete or definitive statement, of course. Both art and fashion have hollow, empty aspects, but they also share brilliant, thoughtful moments. Some of my best friends operate within fashion, and more often than not, our interests and projects run through both worlds—conceptually, formally, politically, etc. As I continue to make work between genres, increasingly it’s about deciding what medium best serves the current iteration of an idea and how to maintain a sense of fluidity through these areas. Participating in an organized Fashion Week is an opportunity to commit to a specific context, one that is tied to wearability and the body. I appreciate the sense of occasion—it’s a moment for many different designers to

England Women complete West Indies whitewash in truncated final T20

England Women wrapped up a 5-0 series sweep of the West Indies, edging a five-over thrash to end the international season with a three-wicket win in Derby.

Having successfully defended totals in four successive Twenty20s, the hosts opted to chase when persistent rain reduced the last match to the bare bones of 60 balls per side.

The Windies made a modest 41 for three, with Freya Davies, Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone taking a wicket apiece, before England got over the line despite losing seven batters along the way.

None of them made double figures but in the end Shakera Selman’s errors – finishing the game with a pair of no-balls as tension peaked – proved decisive.

The recalled Davies was handed the first over and wore a couple of early blows from Deandra Dottin, who smashed four and six in

Golden raises $14.5M to build a wiki-style database of tech knowledge

Golden is announcing that it has raised $14.5 million in Series A funding. The round was led by previous investor Andreessen Horowitz, with the firm’s co-founder Marc Andreessen joining the startup’s board of directors.

When Golden launched last year, founder and CEO Jude Gomila told me that his goal was to create a knowledge base focused on areas where Wikipedia’s coverage is often spotty, particularly emerging technology and startups.

Gomila told me this week that “companies, technologies and the people involved in them” remain Golden’s strength. In that sense, you could see it as a competitor to Crunchbase, but with a much bigger emphasis on explaining and “clustering” information on big topics like quantum computing and COVID-19, rather than just aggregating key data about companies and people. (By the way, both TechCrunch and the author of this post have their own profile pages, though the latter is woefully empty.)

17 of the best retinol creams according to our beauty editors

Retinol: it’s the skincare ingredient that needs no introduction. By now you’re likely already aware of the near infinite benefits it has to offer. From working wonders on fine lines and wrinkles, to improving skin’s texture, reducing scarring and enlarged pores. It’s also great for people with acne.

As leading Hollywood dermatologist, Dr Lancer, who works with famous faces like Victoria Beckham and Beyonce, explains – it’s one that truly works. “Retinol is lauded for it’s medically and scientifically-proven ability to speed up the skin’s cell cycle” he says. “It is one of the few ingredients on the market that comes with this absolute guarantee – it has no gimmicks.” The zero BS approach makes it even more appealing.

So, when should you start using retinol?

In theory, you could start using retinol in your mid to late 20s. Prevention is better than cure – aka the earlier the better
