Zendaya’s Green Carpet Fashion Awards Dress Was a Vintage Dream

Fashion icon Zendaya went the vintage route to accept her Visionary Award at the virtual Green Carpet Fashion Awards, and the result is both sustainable and stunning.

Wearing a vintage piece for a big event practically guarantees that no one else will show up in the same ‘fit as you. It is also a great way to practice sustainability in your wardrobe since you are giving pieces from the past a new life and refraining from purchasing something new. Z and her team know this well and that’s why they knocked it out the park for the look on October 11.

Z’s image architect, Law Roach, posted a video of the award-winning actor posing in her ceremony look, a brown Versace gown from 1996 with jewels from Bulgari. “I think she’s the prettiest girl in the world… Zendaya for the Green Carpet Fashion Awards wearing Bulgari and Archive Versace from Fall 1996 collection… the same year she was born!!!” Law wrote, which makes the ‘fit all the more special.

The dress is subtle yet spectacular, with a glimmering, sheer beaded bodice and straight, slim skirt. Z and Law accessorized the gown with the aforementioned Bulgari jewels (Zendaya is an ambassador for the iconic brand) and a pair of bronze pointed-toe heels. Vogue reports that the dress was designed by the Gianni Versace himself for his namesake line.

As far as the awards goes, Zendaya was a natural choice for the Visionary prize. Time and time again, she continues to hit the red carpet in gorgeous, often-surprising, and always thoughtful outfits from Tom Ford to Tommy Hilfiger. “Zendaya has long championed inclusivity and diversity, she is a real trailblazer,” said Livia Firth, the founder of brand consultancy Eco-Age, in a press conference about the awards ceremony. Wearing vintage to a Green Fashion Awards was also a thoughtful choice. Choosing to shop secondhand is one of the best things you can do to reduce your fashion carbon footprint.

Even though you may not have a fancy virtual awards ceremony to attend, you can certainly follow Z’s lead when shopping and go vintage. She sets a pretty stunning example!
