Nelly Korda out of KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with back injury

American Nelly Korda, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, withdrew from the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship on Friday due to a back injury.

The 22-year-old shot 1-over in her opening round on Thursday and was four strokes behind leaders Kelly Tan and Brittany Lincicome. She made the announcement on her Instagram account Friday morning.

“Unfortunately I am forced to withdraw from the KPMG Championship after my first round due to a discomfort in my back,” Korda wrote. “Was hoping it would be better this morning but unfortunately it is not and I will now go see a specialist. I hope to return to competition soon and wish all the competitors good luck this week.”
