Michigan’s U.P. at peak color, here are the beauty spots

Fall color is rapidly spreading across Michigan. The Upper Peninsula has most areas at peak or very near peak, and changing fast. The Lower Peninsula has trees also quickly turning brilliant.

This is the fastest changeover to fall colors I’ve seen in years. Many of you in Lower Michigan are mentioning 25 percent change overnight. The reason for the fast change is the three day heavy frost a few weeks back.

Here’s the latest fall color map, as of 12:00 p.m. today, September 30, 2020. The map is based on all of the reports sent to us on the MLive Michigan Weather Facebook page and my personal Facebook page.

Cold air, with morning temperatures below freezing, is moving into northern Lower and the U.P. in the next few days. This will really accelerate the leaf color change.
